Air India Flight 171 was a scheduled flight from Ahmedabad, India to London Gatwick Airport in United Kingdom. On 12 June 2025, Air India flight 171 (registration VT-ANB) took off from Ahmedabad airpot and crashed after 32 seconds into a hostel building located 1.7 kilometers from the runway. All crew member of 12 and 229 passengers out of total 230 died in the plane crash. While on the ground, 19 people were killed and 67 were seriously injured. The Air India flight 171 was the first fatal crash involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner since it’s introduction in 2011. According to the preliminary report released on 12 July 2025, the cause of the plane crash was switching the fuel switches from RUN to CUTOFF position immediately after the take off which caused both General Electric GEnx-1B70 engines to loose thrust and altitude subsequently losing power and crashing in to the building. No technical fault is found and the reason for moving the fuel switches to CUTOFF position also remains unknown yet. The air crash investigation is still undergoing but no conclusion have been found.

The Boeing 787 was delivered to Air India in January 2014 and had flown 41,868 hours. Both General Electric GEnx-1B70 engines were installed  months before the crash and had about 28,000 and 33,000 operating hours logged.
