MH-60 Seahawk helicopter and FA-18 super hornet crash in south china sea on 27 Oct 2025

 

On Monday, 27 October 2025, A U.S. Navy MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter crashed in South China Sea during routine operations. All three crew members were rescued. Surprisingly, just after 30 minutes of MH-60R Sea Hawk crash, a F/A-18 super hornet also crashed in South China Sea. Both the crew members ejected safely and were rescued.

Both MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter and F/A-18 Super Hornet belonged to USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. The crashed MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter was assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 73 known as “Battle Cats” and the F/A-18 Super Hornet was assigned to the “Fighting Redcocks” of Strike Fighter Squadron 22.

The crash of F/A-18 Super Hornet was the fourth crash in 2025.

The USS Nimitz was deployed in the Middle East to provide security to the commercial shipping lanes and is now  en route to it’s home port at Naval Base Kitsap in Washington.

    The aircraft carrier is scheduled to be retired in 2026 and will be replaced by USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79).
