Sikorsky Unveils S-70 U-Hawk: The First Unmanned Black Hawk Drone Helicopter

On October 13, 2025, Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT) unveiled a new Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) prototype helicopter on Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington, USA.

A UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter has been transformed into the S-70UAS U-Hawk autonomous Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). The S-70 U-Hawk UAS offers numerous advantages over typical manned UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter.

Features of Sikorsky S-70UAS U-Hawk Drone Helicopter

Sikorsky has remove the cockpit and associated avionics flight controls enabling 25% more cargo space inside the helicopter.
New clam shell doors and ramp has been installed. A tablet can be used by an operator to open the front and side cargo doors to load and unload the cargo. The S-70 can carry mixed cargo both internally. The external cargo hook can be installed to lift 4080 kg (9000 pounds) of cargo.
A new fly-by-wire system is installed with MATRIX technology enabling the helicopter to perform missions with autonomy.
Larger cabin space can now accept longer cargo such as HIMARS pod of six rockets internally, ground vehicles, internal fuel tanks for longer range missions. It can also be configured to launch swarms of drones for various missions including reconnaissance and strike.
The S-70 U-Hawk can now carry ground vehicles including HDT Hunter Wolf 6*6 UGV, up to four Modular Containers, different sensors and munitions.
S-70 U-Hawk can fly for up to 14 hours without refueling.
From startup to shutdown, the operator can control all the helicopter functions using a tablet. The helicopter can fly fully autonomously including navigation to it’s destination using cameras and sensors.
